Athletics at United Community School

The United Community School Athletics program is a structured and competitive program that emphasizes community, passion, character, effort, teamwork, skill development, and good sportsmanship. The students athletes have the opportunity to participate in team sports starting in the 4th grade. We currently offer indoor and outdoor soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, flag football! At UCS we believe that sports have the power to unite, inspire, and instill a positive and healthy lifestyle built to last a lifetime.  We promote and encourage unity in all of our athletics as we believe that we are stronger together. Our goal is for all of our student athletes to become better citizens and to continue participating in sports at the high school level and beyond.

Students that try out and make our sports teams will be required to submit a physical exam to the Director of Athletics. Practices will be held during the athletic season. UCS athletes will participate in regularly scheduled games against other local charter schools.

Physical Education at United Community School

Physical Education is an integral component of UCS  “whole-child” development process. The goal is for each student to develop a healthy lifestyle through engaging in physical activity and making healthy choices. We know students who participate in regular physical education will enjoy enhanced memory and learning, better concentration, increased problem-solving abilities and improved executive function skills!  PE lessons at UCS also integrate mathematics to reinforce and support what the students are learning in the classroom. Both the elementary and the middle school athletics programs are intentionally structured to provide our students with a curriculum that promotes physical, social, and emotional well-being, allowing each child to reach his or her full potential. All lessons follow the same direct instruction, multi-sensory model, and guided discovery model.  Physical education classes take place either in our gymnasium or, weather permitting, on the playing field. Classes follow a team-teaching model, allowing faculty to work with individual students and smaller groups as needed.
